Big Day for Streaks at Knox

We started out and beat Peoria Central in the morning. #6 was short handed but were tough defensively. It was not easy but we went on to a 59-44 win.

The evening was a matchup with #2 rated Centennial. It brought out the largest crowd we have had at Knox College for a game. And it was our largest non-conference crowd of the year.

In the evening game, the Streaks upset #2 Centennial 71-70. It was an up and down game with Centennial ahead 48-40 at half. For Galesburg, Paige Klinck was on fire. She hit 3 three pointers.

Centennial lengthened the lead to 12 after the Galesburg coach got a technical in the third quarter.

Still down by 8 with three minutes to go, Galesburg began to battle back. From about the five minute mark on, the Streaks used Chloe Anderson, Sadee Hamilton, and Myra Diggins in the post, rotated Paige Klinck, Jessica Lieber, Rainee Sibley, and Sharron Diggins at the guard spots.

The Streaks sent Centennial to the line with about 10 seconds left and Centennal up 70-69. The free throw was missed, and point guard Jessica Lieber got the rebound and took off. Just before half court, she spotted Sharron Diggins ahead, and passed Sharron the ball. Sharron attacked the baseket and made the layup to put Galesburg up 71-70 with 3.5 seconds left.

Centennial took a time out and was able to get off a half court shot at the buzzer that did not go in.

Lots of heroes in the game. Chloe Anderson, Casey Williams, Sadee Hamilton, and Myra Diggins got big rebounds. Rainee Sibley, Dani Teel, and Allison Mangieri were great on defense and applied excellent pressure. Jessica Lieber and Sharron Diggins did their usual things of attacking and scoring. But probably our biggest hero was senior, Paige Klinck who was unconscious from the three point line.

Jessica Lieber had 9 assists. Myra Diggins had 5 offensive rebounds. Point guard Jessica Lieber had 6 rebounds and Sadee Hamilton had 8 rebounds.

The system tends to increase the likelihood of an upset and obviously increase the likelihood of being upset. For the Streaks tonight it was the chance to upset the #2 team in Illinois!!

When Sharron hit her layup to put us up, the roar of the large Knox crowd was as good as it gets.
