Galesburg jumped to a huge lead in the first half, only to have UT come back and take the lead in the second half. One would say it was a very "un-system like" game with Galesburg connecting on only 5 threes while only getting 21 attempts. UT did the same thing to us last year. The difference is that this year we did a much better job of attacking the basket.
While we didn't get the threes, we did force 30+ turnovers and got 50% of our missed shots as offensive rebounds.
Allison Mangieri came out hitting shots for us. Jessica Lieber hit a big three down the stretch. Rainee Sibley, Myra Diggins, Sharron Diggins, and Chloe Anderson applied tremendous pressure with our defense. And as usual, with game on the line, Sadee Hamilton made a huge three point play.

GALESBURG —
The Galesburg High School girls basketball team played best at the beginning and best at the end to beat United Township 65-63 and jump back into the Western Big 6 Conference race Thursday at Thiel Gym.
Limited to just 16 3-point attempts, the Silver Streaks resorted to some intense defense and 20-for-30 free-throw shooting to emerge from a WB6 dogfight that saw the lead change hands six times and the score tied four more times in the fourth quarter.
“It was the same thing we saw from them last year,” said GHS coach Evan Massey of the decrease in the usual number of 3s the Streaks take in a game. “They’ve got some athletes with some size and they extend out on the perimeter and make it tough to shoot.
They committed to that.
“I think our kids did a good job answering that.”
Sadee Hamilton’s free throws with 32.8 seconds left broke the game’s final tie to put Galesburg (8-2, 2-2) ahead 64-62 and a free throw by Chloe Anderson at the :19.7 mark made it 65-62.
Following a UT timeout with 10.2 seconds left, Hamilton blocked a 3-point attempt by Abby VanDeventer and the Panthers senior was fouled in a scramble for the loose ball.
VanDeventer made a free throw but missed the second intentionally with 0.9 seconds on the clock, and Hamilton grabbed the ball in a scramble for the rebound as time expired.
“I told our girls that in a close game with the style we played, they’re going to make a million mistakes,” said UT coach Justin Shiltz, whose team slipped to 7-4 and 1-3 “But you can’t make them in the last couple of minutes.
“We competed and frankly, I thought we should have won the game.”

An intense Galesburg defense helped force UT into 15 first-half turnovers.
“Right now I think our kids our playing the best defense we’ve every played since we’ve been playing the system,” said Massey.
“And it starts up front from people like Chloe Anderson, Myra Diggins, Sharron Diggins and Rainee Sibley. With their quickness, we can always put two people on the ball.”
Galesburg took a 34-25 lead into halftime, but UT used a 10-1 run to start the third quarter to tie the score 35-35 at the 5:28 mark.
Sharron Diggins’ drive off an inbounds pass at the end of the third quarter put the Streaks ahead 47-46 to start the final period.
The Panthers took a 56-52 lead midway through the quarter following a rare technical foul called on Massey, and UT spread the floor and ran a delay game with just over three minutes left.
“Our kids were getting gassed,” said Shiltz.
But a turnover ended that strategy at the 3:03 mark and Galesburg regained the lead on a 3-point play by Hamilton with 2:28 remaining.
The score would be tied twice more and the lead would change hands two more times before the frantic finish.
Sharron Diggins’ 14 points led the Streaks. Lieber and Hamilton each scored 11 points. VanDeventer had 25 points for UT.
With Rock Island’s 39-36 loss to Moline on Thursday dropping the Rocks to 3-1 in the WB6, Galesburg’s win closed the gap in the conference race.
“We’re at the point where we just need to keep getting better and at the end take what happens,” said Massey of the WB6. “We’ve got to worry about Alleman (next week’s game.).”

The Galesburg sophomores cut a 10-point first-quarter deficit to 41-36 at the half but fell to the UT sophomores 78-62 on Thursday.
Tayler Dobrinske’s 33 points powered the Panthers.
Carley Weigand led Galesburg with 23 points.
