Weekend Report

The varsity girls had a good weekend of basketball.

Thursday, they came from behind to defeat Geneseo. It was a good game for us because Geneseo has a nice ball club with some outstanding post players.

Friday we travelled to play at Maine West. It is always a good team experience for us to go on the road and go to Chicago. We started out badly with a 15 point loss to Wheeling. Defensively we did not "match up" with them in our pressure- so as a result we spent the game chasing them. We bounced back to get a solid win vs. Maine West.

Saturday, we went 2 of 3, beating Buffalo Grove, losing to Niles North, and finishing with a win over Hinsdale Central. The Buffalo Grove game may have been our best game of the weekend. We came from behind for a solid 5 point win. And our win over perennial power Hinsdale Central was our first in years up there.

Some observations--
1- Our girls showed a competitive fire. After getting knocked around in game one, they came back battling. Two of our 4 wins were come from behind. They kept playing hard whether ahead or behind.

2- We became a much better defensive team as the weekend went on. We were able to initially find people and match up. That made all the difference in the world.

3- While we may have been inconsistent, we showed we are going to have some shooters. Allison Mangieri led the way, having several games with 3+ threes- and that is a lot in the shorter summer games. Sharron Diggins, Rainee Sibley, and Emma Junk all showed the ability to hit the threes.

4- As Hannah Smith and Rainee Sibley learn the ropes playing as a varsity point guard- Sadee Hamilton showed herself as a versatile inside-outside player.

5- Some of our "new kids" showed flashes. Dani Teel seemed to always be getting an offensive rebound and stick back.

6- We did a pretty good job on offensive boards with Dani, Chloe Anderson, Sadee, Myra, Sharron, Micayla Eisele, and Kaela Jackson being our big rebounders.

7- And the most exciting thing is that we have some real quickness that will make our press tough. There were times when Chloe Anderson, Myra and Sharron Diggins were in with Rainee Sibley- they got after it!

We are a work in progress. But considering we are playing without Jessica Lieber, Paige Klinck, and Baylie Boyer- we are doing pretty well!
